Hit-And-Run Suspect Charged After Attempting To Report Car Stolen

Authorities said they have arrested the suspect in a hit-and-run case after he tried to report his car was stolen.

Washington County deputies responded to a crash involving a mother and her 13-year-old daughter near Southwest Hart Road and Southwest 185th Avenue in Aloha on Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses told deputies that the driver of a red Chevrolet pickup truck hit the mother’s car and drove to a Bi-Mart parking lot on Southwest Farmington Road.

According to police, the driver struck several large bags of soil and bark dust that were stacked in the parking lot, damaging his truck. Witnesses said the suspect jumped out of the car and fled the scene on foot.

Washington County deputies and K-9 units searched the area but were unable to locate the driver.

Deputies said the owner of the truck, 26-year-old Brannon Schauss, called police two hours after the crash to report that his truck had been stolen. After further investigation, authorities said they arrested Schauss on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, reckless driving and assault.

The mother, 36-year-old Nancy Maclise, had to be extricated from the car. Both mother and daughter were transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to deputies.

There is no further information on the mother and daughter’s condition at this time
